Board of Directors BRIAN R.
SMITH,
55, is the founder and CEO of SIMCOM International
Holdings, Inc. Mr. Smith managed product development for SIMCOM's European
Union services and led the Company's efforts into the People's Republic of
China. Prior to forming SIMCOM, he was the president and majority owner of
Southern Signatures, Inc. a commercial printer in Atlanta; later acquired
by Graphic Industries, a public company, which at the time was the fourth
largest commercial printer in the US. Previously Mr. Smith was president
of Midwest Filtration, Inc. a Cincinnati manufacturer of air and liquid
filtration products. Mr. Smith spent thirteen years in the investment
banking business; having served as senior vice-president for Oppenheimer
& Co. and vice-president for Smith Barney and Kidder, Peabody &
Co. Mr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from The University of
Cincinnati and completed two years post-graduate work at Xavier
University.
LEE K.
TOOLE,70, retired
from GTE Corporation in 1997 as President of GTE China and Senior
Vice-President - GTE Asia
Pacific. Mr. Toole was responsible for all of GTE's business development
in P.R. China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Prior responsibilities included
worldwide business development for GTE Wireless and he served as President
of GTE Hawaiian Telephone. Mr. Toole provides consulting services to
international telecommunication companies.
Dr. JOHN M. PALMS, 70, was the president of The University of South Carolina from 1991 until 2003. Dr. Palm's experience in higher education includes a 23-year career at Emory University as a scientist, administrator and the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Physics. He was also Dean of Emory University's College of Arts and Sciences and vice-president of Academic Affairs. Emory honored him with its highest award for leadership and service - The Thomas Jefferson Award. In 1989, he was president of Georgia State University. A native of The Netherlands, Dr. Palms came to the U.S. in 1951. Dr. Palms earned his B.A. from the Citadel, his master's degree from Emory and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of New Mexico. Prior to his career at Emory, he spent four years at Los Alamos National Laboratory. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Palms serves on the boards of Fortis, Inc., National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and the Institute for Defense Analyses, a high-ranking advisory institute to the U.S. Department of Defense, currently serving as its chairman.
