Agreements in force - EU and Canada Mutual Recognition Agreement

A Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between EC and Canada entered into force on 1st November 1998. Under this Agreement, European manufacturers will be able to have the conformity of their products assessed to Canadian regulatory requirements in appropriately designed European laboratories, inspection bodies and conformity assessment bodies, hence reducing the cost of such assessments and time to markets and Canadian manufacturers will have the same advantages in regard to the European market.

The Agreement covers all mandatory conformity procedures in the following sectors:
  • Good Manufacturing Practices for Pharmaceuticals
  • Medical Devices
  • Telecommunications Terminal Equipment, Information Technology Equipment and Radio Transmitters
  • Electrical Safety
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • Recreational Craft
