Member States are required to transpose the provisions of the directives into their national legislation. They must also inform the Commission of the measures taken. Member States must permit the placing on the market of products that comply with regulations in force in their territory at the date of application of the directive in question, until the date as set up by the directive. Under certain restrictions, such products must also be permitted to be put into service beyond that date.
