The EMC Manual clarifies matters and procedures referred to in Council Directive 89/336/EEC (as amended by Directives 91/263/EEC, 92/31/EC, 93/68/EEC, and 93/97/EEC) concerning electromagnetic compatibility. Due to the wide scope of the directive and the variety of products it covers, competent authorities of the Member States, trade associations, and economic operators of regulated apparatus (including manufacturers, users and those bodies charged with the task of developing and implementing harmonized standards), would all benefit from further guidance in the application of the EMC Directive: hence, the need for this manual.

The manual covers the many technical nuances of the directive and outlines proper conformity assessment procedures. Manufacturers who utilize harmonized standards or the Technical Construction File (TCF) method of compliance will find clear direction on conformity requirements for components, products, systems, and installations, as well as commentary on compliance alternatives for medical devices, IT equipment, and machinery. A copy of the directive, amendments, and a listing of Notified Bodies for the directive are included.
