Manufacturers seeking to market products in PR China are required to meet various requirements, which include mandatory product safety certification. Under Chinese law, all products must comply with the applicable "GB" Chinese National Standard, regardless of whether certification is required. Previosly, there were two certification marks in PR China that applied generally to electrical and electronic products, as well as to some non-electrical products. There is now only one...the CCC Mark.

China has integrated its two compulsory inspection systems into a single procedure as part of its commitment for entry into the World Trade Organization. The two previous symbols used to indicate a product had received approval to be used in China previous to May 1, 2002 were the "CCIB Mark" for Import Commodities and the "CCEE Mark" or Great Wall Mark. Both were replaced by the "CCC" (China Compulsory Certificate) mark as of 5/1/2002.
