On December 11, 2001, China was admitted the World Trade Organization, (WTO). As a result, every Chinese government entity
is involved in some form of reorganization, and/or is focused on final preparations for accession.
This is true of China's Compulsory Product Certification System as well. Senior officials at CNCA, AQSIQ and the
Ministry of Information Industry (MII), the Ministry responsible for all telephony devices, contend that they are looking
forward to additional positive change, a greater amount of transparency, and continued cooperation with the western world.
Outlook for China CPCS - Mark Conversion Deadline
CNCA has set August 1, 2003 as the deadline for manufacturers to convert their existing CCIB and CCEE Marks into CCC Marks.
Products with CCIB and CCEE Marks that are not converted to CCC Marks by August 1, 2003 will be in violation of Chinese Law
and will be excluded from the market. SIMCOM has introduced a turnkey service to convert manufacturers’ CCIB and CCEE
regulatory marks into China’s new CCC Mark.
Outlook for Chinese Economic Policy
In May 2002, China and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) entered their first round of
talks to set up a free trade zone. Member states hope that the zone will eventually cover a third of the
world’s population.
Chinese Economic Forecast
According to many global economic news sources, real GDP growth will accelerate to an average annual rate
of 7.8% in 2003-06 as the benefits of structural reforms feed through. Consumer price inflation is also
expected to increase, to an average of 2.8% in 2002-06.
